What is Your Solution for Cleaning Scorched Pots?

I have a set of thin pots that are okay for heating food, boiling tea, or cooking soupy soups, but when it comes to cooking dense foods something is bound to get scorched. The bottom to one of my pots was entirely black after scorching corn. I put water in the pot and let it sit overnight, but the rough charred mass didn't budge. One tempting alternative solution entered my mind: throw the thing away! But, instead, I grabbed a scouring pad and removed as much from the surface as possible.

The majority of it came off with much elbow grease. For the portion that was left, I sprinkled a little baking soda into the pot, then poured Ammonia on top of that; enough to cover the bottom.

Five minutes later I scrubbed again and the particles came right up! There were a few stubborn specks that needed extra scrubbing, but overall it worked nicely. Wish I had thought of this sooner!

What do you use to clean scorched pots?
